Hiya everyone,
It’s strange for me to think that I am a third of the way through the first part of my course. It’s only a 6 week long session, but I don’t feel like I’ve hit my stride just yet. Here’s what’s happened since I wrote about a week and a half ago…
I have been trying to get my head around my studies. Classes aren’t scheduled weekly, every day and every week is different. Some days have no class, some days are exhausting. I’ve just finished my first practice essay, which won’t be graded, but will give me an idea of where I stand. But even though this is postgrad, we still take field trips, so we travelled to Sheffield to see a museum on Thursday! Since museum studies students are on the whole more nerdy than cool, they hang out together, at pubs like the Lansdowne, and the Marquis Wellington.
But I’ve been meeting others as well. I’ve had fish and chips with some Couchsurfing guys, “Sunday roast” (many Brits favourite meal with roast chicken, potatoes, carrots and other veggies, and lots of gravy) with church folks. This seems to always be followed by apple crumble smothered in lots of warm custard, and tea with milk. I’m also trying to spend time with my flatmates, and went to a free dance class with my flatmate Shan Shan, where we learned a bit of waltz and cha-cha! And of course, I went on a daytrip to Cambridge on Saturday with Lauren, who is conveniently from Naperville.
I still feel new at all of this, including the sheer amount of reading, but it will get better.
Sounds similar to what Benjamin did during his J-term while at Taylor U when he went over there to Oxford. Not much classes, lots of studying, reading and writing papers. Then the tours and field trips. Enjoy!!
